Self Publishing Children's Book
Getting Your Self Publishing Children's Book In PrintFor those who have written a children's book, it is often a real challenge to get that book in print and actually in the hands of some children. There are several options available today that were not available in the past to an author who is interested in printing a book.; It is very possible that an author does not have grand notions about writing a best seller; but, that he or she would simply like to get a book printed and in a cover for family members or students or some other target group. If this is the case, it is very likely that the author will find the solution in either self publishing or print on demand publishing. Self publishing has been around for many years and is very much like traditional publishing in many ways. It is a particularly popular method of self publishing children's books. The very important difference is that in self publishing, the author does not have to 'sell' the book to the publisher, since the author bears the cost of printing the book. In self publishing, the author still enjoys most of the services that a traditional publisher would offer, including copyrighting, manuscript editing, book jacket design, and so on, BUT the author pays for the publishing costs and earns what ever income might be generated from the sales of the book. The author also sets the sale price and retains all royalty rights to the work. While self publishing a great option for many authors who want to get their work in print, it is somewhat expensive, because there is a set number of books that will be printed and the author has to pay for that number of books up front. The books are printed using the offset press method, and it is simply not worth the printer's time and investment to print a very small number of books. The alternative is a rather new method known as print on demand publishing. This method relies on the use of laser printers to generate the book pages. The pages are bound into a book form and bound in a cover, so it does produce a 'real book'. |
